Glossary
Crohn's disease, also called regional enteritis, is a chronic, inflammatory bowel disease of unknown cause. Symptoms of Crohn's disease include abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and fever. Inflammation, usually of the small intestine, can result in serious problems, such as bowel obstruction (a medical emergency), abscesses, strictures (narrowing of hollow or tubular organs such as the esophagus), and fistulas (abnormal tube-like passages). The onset of most cases is between 15 and 25 years of age.
