Smoking and Lung Cancer

Smoking is the number one cause of primary lung cancer, according to the American Lung Association. Eighty-seven percent of lung cancer cases are caused by smoking. Cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals, many of which are proven carcinogens. Cigars and pipes also boost the risk for lung cancer.
