Washing Produce

Should you wash fresh fruits and vegetables before eating them? The Food and Drug Administration says that washing produce in plain water can help eliminate any pesticide residues left on the food. Supermarkets don't wash produce before putting it out for sale. Use plain water -- no soap -- and scrub with a brush when appropriate. For leafy vegetables like lettuce and cabbage, discard the outer leaves.
